Free workshop teaches how to grow fruit trees in pots

The workshop at Ibirapuera Park is also aimed at those who live in an apartment and want to cultivate fruit trees

To the sound of good music and in an intimate atmosphere specially prepared, guests are greeted with flavored water and tea - prepared with fresh herbs, harvested in the Umapaz experimental field.

The workshop's speaker is Raul Cânovas, who has 59 years of experience in the area. He says that even those who live in an apartment can grow fruit in pots such as pomegranate, araçá, acerola, cherry, jabuticaba, orange, bergamot, kinkan, lemon and many others - provided that some basic care is taken, such as the quality of the substrate, drainage of the vessels and the irrigation regime.

Raul Canavas

In 1966, Raul won the 1st Prize in the II International Horticultural Exhibition, held in Buenos Aires; in 1997, the 2nd Prize in the Contest “Paulista Viva” and the 3rd Prize in the Contest “Revitalization of the Center of São Paulo”, integrating the team of urban planner José Moraes. Designed and/or executed more than 2,800 gardens. Taught courses at the Maria Luiza Foundation and Oscar Americano and others similar at the Biological Institute, São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, Image and Sound Museum, Plantarum Institute, Inhotim Institute, São Paulo School of Landscape, Brasília School of Landscape, Garden Fair , Livraria Cultura, Anab National Association of Sustainable Architecture/Brazil, Sítio de Roberto Burle Marx, Rincão Gaia, Solo Sagrado, among others. For seven years he directed the program “Jardins e Afins” on Rádio Eldorado AM. He wrote “O Jardim Como Remédio” and “Um Jardim para Semper”, as well as “Projects of the Great Brazilian Landscapers” (co-authored). He is a member of the ANP – National Association of Landscaping and APV – Associação Paulista Viva. Columnist for the magazine Natureza, edits the blog “Jardim Cor”. In the last thirteen years, he has given 205 lectures and 402 classes in courses and events, in 58 cities across the country and in others such as: Paris (Association des architectes-paysagistes), Buenos Aires (University of Buenos Aires) and San José, Costa Rica (University Veritas).
