Workshop in São Paulo teaches how to grow mushrooms at home

Activity will be taught by experts in the field of fungi

The activity entitled "Home cultivation of edible mushrooms" aims to present the main steps for the cultivation of mushrooms shimeji (Pleurotus ostreatus) from techniques and materials that can be developed at home or in apartments.

During the workshop, through practical activities, participants will be invited to develop all stages for cultivation, from the preparation of the culture medium for isolation from fresh mushrooms, to the preparation of the inoculum ("seed") and of the cultivation substrate, whose final objective is the development of new mushrooms in standardized packaging, requiring little space and few resources.

At the end of the activity, each participant will take a package ready for the development of new mushrooms.

Schedule

  • Main steps for the cultivation of edible mushrooms;
  • Preparation of the culture medium based on potato, sugar and agar;
  • Isolation from fresh mushrooms;
  • Preparation of inoculum in wheat grains;
  • Preparation of sugarcane bagasse-based cultivation substrate;
  • Induction of new mushroom formation.

Mariana by Paula Drewinski

Biologist, Master in Biology of Fungi, Algae and Plants at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and PhD student in Plant Biodiversity and Environment at the Institute of Botany. He has experience in the laboratory area, with research in macrofungal taxonomy and production of edible mushrooms.

He participated in the Universidade Sem Fronteiras (Unicentro) program in the project "Cultivation of edible and medicinal mushrooms as a way to diversify the production of family farmers".

Nelson Menolli Jr.

Biologist, Master and Doctor in Plant Biodiversity and Environment by the Botany Institute, has been working in the field of research and teaching of fungi for 15 years. He is a professor and researcher, working in the development and guidance of several projects in the field of mushroom identification and cultivation.

Author of several scientific articles published in national and international magazines and also the book awarded in the latest edition of the Jabuti Literature Prize, receiving 1st place in the gastronomy category for the book “Yanomami Food Encyclopedia (Sanöma): mushrooms”.
