rice

Rice is the third largest cereal crop in the world, surpassed only by corn and wheat. It is a plant of the grass family that feeds more than half of the world's human population. In addition, it is also possible to extract rice oil from the grain, which has a high moisturizing power.

Studies indicate its origin in the Asian continent, but it is currently consumed in countries around the world, having a special place in the daily life of Brazilians. The rice grain consists of a seed surrounded by a protective layer, the husk. In the production of white rice, the seed goes through a polishing process in which the protective husk is removed. But a by-product is obtained from this layer - it is called rice bran used for the extraction of vegetable oil.

The oil obtained contains a substance called oryzanol, which is a mixture of feluric acid esters with triterpene alcohols and is also rich in tocopherols (vitamin E). These compounds have antioxidant properties and for this reason they have several benefits.

Rice oil can be used to moisturize the body and skin and regulate the oiliness of the same because it is an easily absorbed substance. With high levels of antioxidant compounds, this oil is widely used for cosmetic formulations.

It serves as a cell renewer, improves elasticity, increases skin's natural regeneration and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It has anti-inflammatory power and because it is easily absorbed, it does not clog pores when applied to the face, keeping it always hydrated as it retains skin moisture. The presence of feluric acid and esters prevent premature aging of the skin or even that caused by the sun.

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power of rice oil helps in the treatment of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. It promotes hydration and improves skin oiliness, forming a protective layer and preventing inflammation. The oil serves as a complementary treatment and can act as a preventative, as moisturized skin is less likely to form sores.

In hair, rice oil helps control scalp oiliness and fight dandruff. The product must be applied massaging the leather for the effect to be potentiated. Due to its reconstructive and nourishing action, it helps in the prevention and control of split and dry ends, giving shine and silkiness, in addition to strengthening the hair root and helping its healthy growth. It can also be used as a massage oil and to make soap.

Rice vegetable oil can be applied directly to the skin or hair, however, it can be mixed with moisturizing creams, shampoos or conditioners. But before applying, check if vegetable oil is pure and natural, as some types of products may contain chemical substances, such as parabens, which can be harmful to health. Therefore, check the labels to make sure the oil is really natural and pure, thus avoiding any risk of contamination.

The benefits of pure rice oil are also great for health and can be used in food. It helps reduce bad cholesterol (increase good cholesterol), boosts the immune system, helps prevent cancer, improves skin health, relieves menopause symptoms and protects the heart - this is due to its antioxidant action and the presence of vitamin E, which helps in preventing cell damage. It can be used in food preparation or added to dishes such as fish and salads.

discard

It is also worth mentioning that the improper disposal of oils causes serious environmental impacts, mainly in terms of water contamination. Thus, the disposal of vegetable oils in drains and sinks is inadequate, as it can cause several environmental risks and also clog the pipes. Therefore, in case of disposal, look for the correct location for these products, place the oil residues in a plastic container and take them to a disposal point so that the oil can be recycled.
