Israel company promises to recycle used toilet paper

Stools contain cellulose, which can help reuse toilet paper

Paper

Applied CleanTech is an Israeli company that has developed a method to recycle used toilet paper. Through a technology developed to sterilize the material, it is possible to reuse it without any risk to health.

The idea sounds strange, but it could also be revolutionary. Of all types of discarded paper, used toilet paper is perhaps the most difficult to reuse. However, faeces contains cellulose from vegetables that are eaten by people, which can also be converted into recycled paper.

The scientists who are developing the project believe that, if the idea succeeds, around ten percent of all paper used on the planet could be made this way. The project works only with the paper discarded in the toilet, which goes to the treatment plants, where they are collected for recycling (a common fact in European countries, but not in Brazil due to the low coverage of the water treatment network).

Applied CleanTech's CEO, Rafael Ahron, claims that the company has discovered a new source of paper that can be good if collected at the right point, that is, before the material is destroyed by water treatment plants.

Aharon also says that the final product does not present any odor or any risk of contamination for the consumer. However, you know that product acceptance is not easy due to psychological issues.
