How about putting plant-inspired cutlery on your table? What if they are, after all, disposable, but biodegradable?

This is the idea behind the Graft collection, created by Chinese designer Qiyan Deng for her master's project.

“The objective is to present the bioplastic. It's a beautiful material that deserves cutting-edge design conception – not just moral exploration,” explains Deng.

Its line of cutlery is all cornstarch and has colors and shapes that resemble fruits and vegetables.

“Nature's shapes are used for another purpose: the celery stick becomes a fork, the artichoke petal becomes a spoon. The harmony between visual and tactile sensation brings together a question: Will you be able to throw them away easily?”, he writes on his official website.

To make her project a reality, she developed a two-step process. In the first one, he used resin to find the best shape and application. Then it had a 3D printer to reproduce the characteristics of the food on the objects.

Although it is still a prototype, the designer is already looking for sponsors to finance her invention.
