Projeto Horta e Compostagem crowdfunds public schools
Money raised will be used to carry out vegetable garden, composting, green panel, earthworm, automatic irrigation system and meliponiculture workshops throughout the year 2020
The Horta e Compostagem Project is an idea of the directors, teachers and students of the State School Fernão Dias Paes (Fernão), located in the Pinheiros neighborhood in São Paulo, as well as the Volunteer Group, Coletivo Pinheiros, residents and the Sou Resíduo Campaign. The objective is to develop a social and environmental cooperative project that integrates students and residents of the neighborhood. The main thread is the transformation of organic waste into fertilizer (compost) and later into a vegetable garden and more food to supply the school.
- What is compost and how to make it
Organic waste (leaves, fruit peels, vegetables, vegetables and food waste in general) are generated in virtually all homes and businesses around Fernão and almost 100% of these nutrients end up in landfills, instead of returning to the landfill. land and generate more food. The project is simple: carrying out improvements in the school and vegetable gardens, composting, green panel, earthworm, automatic irrigation system and meliponiculture throughout the year 2020. Simple but ambitious because it involves students, teachers, neighborhood residents and businesses since it is understood that sustainability solutions must be found collectively.
Why support?
Currently, young people have little contact with practical workshops, nature, land and collective actions. The Vegetable Garden and Composting Project in Fernão is an excellent opportunity for students to make all these connections and learn techniques and values for their lives, which can be replicated in their homes, neighborhoods and even a new profession.
The project also seeks to demystify and make composting and urban gardens accessible, both for residents and for bars and restaurants.
Who participates in the project?
The Fernão Dias Paes State School has more than 1,300 students enrolled (according to May 2018 data from the State Department of Education) in Elementary and High School. The school unit is one of the most traditional in the Pinheiros neighborhood, in the city of São Paulo, and completed 70 years of foundation in September 2019.
Since the end of last year, the director Lilian Santos de Carvalho has opened the doors to the community and there is an active group of volunteers, mostly neighbors, mainly from the Residents and Friends of Predinhos de Pinheiros Association - AMAPP.
Associação Coletivo Pinheiros, formed by merchants in the region, which has supported several actions by Fernão, and even kicked off this project by donating a bicycle to collect organic waste, materials and engage its members.
Eccaplan Sustainability Consulting and Sou Residue Zero Campaign, technicians responsible for this project and for composting actions in neighborhoods, schools and companies.
Zero waste in the school, zero waste in the community. Come with us!
We accept anonymous donations, all others will be appreciated on E.E's social networks. Fernão Dias Paes, Eccaplan, Coletivo Pinheiros and 100plastico.
