Saving energy makes all the difference

Small habits can save a lot of energy

Saving energy is a matter of habit. There are many attitudes that we can adopt in our day-to-day that can become customs without much effort and that still help to preserve the environment. Take a look at some tips on how to save electricity:

When leaving the house, unplug all appliances. They continue to consume energy if they are not unplugged. Do the same in environments where no one is inside, even when you're at home.

If you live in a building, call only one elevator at a time. The starter alone uses 10 times more energy than when it's on the move. Or better: how about using the stairs? So you exercise and save energy. When choosing chandeliers and luminaires, give preference to the ones with light domes that don't block the efficiency of the lamps and use less energy.

During the day, do not leave light bulbs on and enjoy the natural sunlight. Give preference to fluorescent or LED lamps, which last much longer than the incandescent one (LED is more environmentally friendly). Oh, and if you are going to paint your house, prefer light colors, which require less power from the lamps.

Another important initiative is to avoid excessive consumption of electricity in what are called peak hours. Between 6 pm and 9 pm, electricity consumption is much higher than at other times. This is because, in addition to the factories, public lighting, residential lighting, several household appliances and most showers are working at the same time. Avoid turning on too many appliances and light bulbs at this time. Use them for less time and one at a time and, if possible, choose another time for your bath.

Air conditioning, painting and kitchen

Change your air conditioners and heater filters regularly for more efficiency and less wasted energy, but let's face it, there's nothing better than opening the windows and breathing in fresh air. Think twice before turning it on.

Installing a solar collector for heating water is a good measure to save energy and money. By turning off the faucet when washing dishes, you save water and energy in just one shot and use hot water only in necessary cases.

Consume seasonal fruits and vegetables. This way you save money and indirectly reduce fuel costs. Buying fruits produced in your region also reduces the emission of pollutants, not to mention that there is less food loss due to manipulation.

Remove frozen foods from the freezer in advance and let them thaw naturally. You save gas and work. Save cooking gas by using a low heat when bringing the water to a boil and use only as much as you need. Soak hard foods before cooking.

Car

Leave your car at home one day a week (rotating days are a good option) and avoid emitting 440 kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere if the distance covered is 40 km.

If traffic is slow, turn off the engine for long stops and save fuel. Use both sides of the sheets of paper, a material that requires a lot of water and energy to manufacture.
