Giving gifts to those we like is great, but the packaging for gifts is not always good. The paper waste that comes with gifts is huge, but there are ways to avoid it. Just use your creativity to make your own packaging, reusing materials.

Here are some tips for creating your sustainable gift packaging with a touch of originality:

cloths

Cloth is a good alternative to replace paper packaging. In addition to being quite different, it can have other uses for whoever is receiving the gift. In Japan, the traditional art of creating gift wrapping and cloth bags is called furoshiki. A positive difference is that the cloths are great for wrapping gifts with different shapes, such as bottles. Any type of cloth can be "raw material" for this type of packaging: handkerchiefs, shirts, scarves, scarves, etc.

cardboard bags

Widely used in clothing stores, cardboard bags can make great gift wrapping. Just turn them inside out, cut them out, and wrap your Christmas presents.

If the bag is basic, without many prints, make a simple bow to decorate it - so you give an elegant look to the package.

single color papers

When you have single-color papers in your hand, there's no mistake, after all, simplicity has always been graceful. Wrap the gift in a unique color and use the other paper to make a simple ornament, such as a ribbon. You can even use another more eye-catching paper for the ornament, a different tape or even cut out patterns, such as balls and squares, to stick in the box as an ornament.

children's drawings

Instead of keeping your children's, grandchildren's and nephews' drawings away, consider using them as gift wrapping. Or even wrap the gift with blank sheets and have the child draw on them. The effect is very nice, especially if the recipients will be the closest family members, such as the child's fathers, mothers or grandparents.

Containers with custom label

Small pots and cans can easily be turned into gift wrapping, especially with a custom label. With that in mind, how about making a small drawing and reusing the old pot that would go to waste?

newspapers

Different sections of newspapers offer different packaging. The cultural photos, the comic strips and the lyrics themselves give a really cool retro effect.

reuse and recycle

In addition to the models described above, it is possible to let your imagination flow from the stock of newspapers, bags and papers in your home. And, when giving the gift, instruct the recipient to correctly dispose of the packaging, if it cannot be reused. You can also be radical and choose not to pack gifts, how about that?
