How to make homemade lipstick

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of canauba wax
  • 1 teaspoon of shea butter or cocoa butter
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cocoa powder, or annatto, or beetroot, or cinnamon, or saffron, or blackberry (depends on your preferred shade of lipstick)
  • 1 drop of essential oil of ylang ylang or peppermint (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of mica powder (this ingredient is also optional. Only add it if you want to shine)
  • What are essential oils?

Method of preparation

Melt the canauba wax, shea butter (or cocoa butter) and coconut oil in a bain-marie. Once the mixture of these ingredients in your homemade lipstick looks like oil, remove from heat and add the rest of the ingredients you chose. If you want to mix two powder colors to form a new color, remember to keep the same proportions. If you want to mix the strawberry powder with the annatto powder, for example, reduce the measure to half a teaspoon of each.

Once all the ingredients are well mixed, but still liquid, use an eyedropper to pour into the container - give preference to glass, as plastic can be toxic. Understand this theme better in the article: "Most plastics release hormone-like compounds, which can deceive the body and bring health problems"

As this homemade lipstick expands after cooling, do not fill the container to the top. Allow to cool for at least half an hour. Store in a cool place (below 80 degrees).

This homemade lipstick is very soft and transparent, very moisturizing and protective for the skin, as coconut oil and some other components are therapeutic for the skin. To better understand this topic, take a look at the articles: "Coconut oil: benefits, what it is for and how to use it" and "Shea butter: powerful natural moisturizer". But remember, make sure you are not allergic to certain ingredients, such as essential oils or even cinnamon.
