How often to shower?

Taking a shower every day may not be as healthy a habit as you think

Take a bath

Taking a shower every day is a common practice and considered an act of hygiene, at least in Brazil. Most people believe that bathing properly is bathing often and that this habit will keep your body clean and healthy. However, as it is customary not to wash your hair every day to keep it healthier, taking a shower every day is also not recommended. Check how to take a shower correctly:

Frequency

Bathing regularly is very important for several reasons. This act helps prevent disease and promotes good hygiene. The frequency of this habit depends on several factors. Experts believe that most people do not need to shower every day for one simple reason: damage to skin health is avoided.

Of course, there are several exceptions to this rule, such as people who work in crowded places (with a lot of people), who go to a gym every day, or who work in the health field. In summer, it is common to take a shower due to the increase in temperature and the excessive sweating it brings - at this time of year it is highly recommended to shower frequently.

However, in most cases, two baths every three days is enough. By not taking a shower every day, your skin maintains a balance in the production of lipids that protect it, making it more radiant and healthy. But it is important to remember to always wash the areas of the body that need more attention for reasons of hygiene or because they have odors, such as the armpits and intimate parts. Washing your hands often is also super important, as this act helps to prevent disease.

Five reasons not to shower every day

1. Makes the skin softer

Our skin receives hydration from two main sources: it attracts moisture from the air and uses the oils and water released by our bodies. When taking a hot bath, the oils dissolve, leaving the skin less hydrated.

By decreasing the frequency of bathing, the skin will produce the ideal amount of oil, creating a natural balance - the result: skin that is more aesthetically attractive and soft. If you feel you need more oil, try opting for organic creams and oils such as olive, coconut and jojoba.

2. Protect the skin

Dead skin cells and lipids in the outermost layer of the skin serve as protection against bacteria and some chemicals that can penetrate the skin. When we shower, the lipids from the dead cells in this layer are removed, and we lose this protection.

Some beneficial bacteria that live on human skin are also removed with hot water and soap, which impairs protection, as they help to form antibodies in cells.

3. Decreases skin irritations

Several chemicals present in soaps and shampoos can contribute to skin irritation, especially in people who have an allergic condition, such as dermatitis and psoriasis. Hot water tends to make these problems worse. Decreasing the frequency of bathing can help reduce the number of irritations.

4. Assists in the achievement

Our natural scent is an important sexual attraction and partner selection tool on both physical and psychological levels. This means that by decreasing the frequency of bathing, it is possible to get better results in attracting a partner. Of course, if your odor can be felt from great distances, it might be a good idea to take a shower or even change the deodorant you use.

5. More savings on water and electricity bills

Showers are largely responsible for the consumption of light and water in your home. With less bathing, this consumption will also decrease, helping the environment and the pocket.
