Tunnels made of trees and shrubs are examples of how nature can be sculpted by humans and other outside influences. When roads and corridors are opened through thick forest, the surrounding trees bend towards the new glare so they can receive more light and do more photosynthesis. This process is continuous and creates the tunnels, as the tree branches often overhang so much that they end up covering the corridor below.
Of course, there are also situations where landscapers use techniques to create a spectacular tunnel, as in the case of the image above from Kawachi Fuji Gardens in Kitakyushi, Japan.
