ACTON RocketSkates: The World's First Electric and Smart Skates
Motorized and electric skates are a creative technological innovation
For those adepts of traditional skates, a recent technological innovation promises to combine practicality with fun. Peter Treadway, in conjunction with ACTON, launched the world's first electric and intelligent skates, an evolution of spnKix, from 2012.
Adjustable to almost any type of shoe, the Rocket Skateboards stand out for leaving your hands free of any remote control. The skates have motors controlled by an on-board microprocessor, are equipped with a lithium-ion battery that communicates to control speed and behavior. That way, all movement depends only on your feet. But don't be scared! For beginners, Treadway advises that a little training is enough.
What if I want to walk? Another advantage is that to climb a ladder, enter a restaurant or stop at the park, you don't need to take off the RocketSkates, as the proximity to the ground doesn't prevent you from walking.
However, this was not the only thing that made this innovation successful. You Rocket Skateboards can still connect to your smartphone through the ACTON App, in order to open a range of other features.
O ACTON App helps you monitor the performance and battery of the skates, as well as tracking the routes already taken. As a form of greater entertainment, the app also promotes interaction between users as it allows them to get in touch or even have fun together. Through Geo-Gaming, you can play individually or in teams. By creating avatars and racing with others, you transport digital games to street reality.
O R-Control The app also offers the option of remote control. So, the Geo-Gaming it can be played remotely or with a camera attached to the skates to offer footage from a new perspective.
Funding for the project came with the help of the platform kickstarter. In September 2014, three models - which vary in distance and time range - began to be pre-ordered for a cost of US$ 419 (approximately R$ 975) on the official website. Although not the cheapest, the Rocket Skateboards they can be a creative and sustainable option for those who follow the trend of using alternative transport to escape the problems and harms of traditional urban transport.
