Edible dish: tasty option to save soap and water after a meal
With these edible dishes you reduce the waste of water, disposable dishes and energy
After enjoying a delicious homemade lunch, the dreadful task of washing the dishes remains. Laziness can cause the act to be put off for later, which can cause relationship problems. It is no use arguing that washing the dishes increases the water footprint and the environmental impact (soap spending), as it is a job that needs to be done anyway. But imagine the possibility of not washing the dishes simply because you... ate the dish!
This was the alternative created by the Piet Zwart Institute to save efforts and natural resources: to create incredible edible dishes. They are made by hand and are used to place snacks and other small foods. After devouring the content, just eat the plate. Thus, it avoids wasting energy for the production of the dish, in addition to reducing expenses with soap and water, which will only need to be used in cutlery, glasses and pans, depending on the meal.
To design the edible dishes, designers Joanne Choueiri, Giulia Cosenza and Povilas Raskevicius, from Piet Zwart, developed the Rollware - a rolling pin (similar to macaroni rolls) carved with drawings that attach to the dough. Scroll pins that are coupled in sets have three functions. The first is to "open the dough" so that it is flat; the second is to "print" the design on the food; and the third is to cut the dough to the size of a circle (to better understand the process, check out the video at the bottom of the page). Once ready, this dough will be cooked and, instead of being discarded, it will serve as food.
There are four types of roll with standardized designs. In this way, it is possible to vary and create dishes for different types of food, encouraging the user's creativity. There is even the shape of the traditional ice cream cone.
Edible dishes help your meal become more enjoyable and even offer you a homemade dessert to finish. Just pay attention to cleaning your hands and the table on which you are going to eat so that there is no risk of contamination.
