Newspaper decoration

See a creative and sustainable way to use newspaper as wallpaper

Living room

Wallpaper is a good tip for those who want to redesign their home decor and we can do it in a sustainable and innovative way. How about making a newspaper wallpaper?

We'll need

  1. a good amount of newspaper
  2. White glue diluted in water (in the proportion of two measures of glue to one of water)
  3. Paint roller to spread the glue on the wall
  4. Brush to smooth the newspaper (can be the soft ones for washing)
  5. trowel
  6. stiletto

Step by step

  • The first task is to clean the wall very well. After cleaning, it's time to spread the diluted glue, for that count with the help of the roller. Do this in steps as you paste the newspaper. Position the paper and first flatten it by hand, from the inside out, to prevent bubbles from forming.
  • Brush to remove small bubbles, if they are there. Be very careful at this stage not to tear the newspaper. The finishing must be done with the support of the spatula and the knife to cut excesses on baseboards, doors and windows.

Heads up

  • If your wall has switches, before you start gluing, remove the mirrors. Glue the newspaper normally on the box and, once dry, make a cut and remove the excess.
  • Apply another coat of glue to give a better finish and make the wall waterproof. Another option is to use varnish, but if that's your choice, remember to use one made of water, so the newspaper doesn't turn yellow over time.

In addition to newspaper sheets, we can also use magazine sheets, old books... Imagine decorating the wall with verses by Camões, for example? All this reusing material that went to waste.
