Having a cistern is an excellent option for those who want to reuse water, but care must be taken not to neglect cleaning.
Also known as algibes, cisterns are reservoirs that collect rainwater or water for domestic use and store it for tasks that do not require drinking water. In other words, they are a low-cost water reuse system - understand the difference between rainwater and reuse water.
One of the main precautions you must take with your cistern is cleaning, to avoid contamination and keep the system functioning properly. The functional filter must be clean to keep out impurities and prevent clogging; the inside of the cistern also needs periodic cleaning. Total cistern cleaning needs to be done every six months. Tank systems are equipped with simple components, so tank cleaning is an easy procedure.
Learn how to efficiently clean a cistern:
- First, completely empty the cistern;
- It is necessary to uncouple the supply pipe, the one that connects the tiles to the system;
- Remove all existing filters and pipes in the cistern before cleaning, such as the leaf separator filter, the mosquito net, the connection tubes, among others;
- After disassembling all the equipment, use a pressure jet with water to remove the dirt accumulated on the internal and external parts of all cistern components (avoid waste with the jet);
- The tank itself must also be cleaned internally and externally with a water pressure jet; in the case of vertical or modular cisterns, lay the tank so that the upper opening is accessible for cleaning with the jet (again, avoid waste);
- Remove all the water with impurities and repeat the procedure if necessary;
- The cistern cleaning is ready. Reassemble all equipment and use it again.
