Water saving gains more and more strength. Whether due to occasional water crises or to save the environment, more and more people are collecting rainwater or reusing water from the washing machine to use in activities such as cleaning the yard or flushing.

This is a measure that contributes to alleviating the problem of water scarcity that, according to a UN report, will affect two thirds of the world's population in 2050. In other words, work and dedication will be necessary to guarantee clean water and food security for all. Other measures that can alleviate the issue of individual water consumption are: being a vegetarian once a week, learning to save water in the daily life of the condominium or when washing dishes.

With regard to the reuse of rainwater or daily household use, it is important that it is done safely. A practical option capable of preventing water contamination and the proliferation of the dengue mosquito is to use a mini-cistern.

It is important to store the collected water in a fenced place that does not attract animals, insects and in which pollutants such as cleaning products or grease do not fall. That's what cisterns are for. Made of masonry, fiber or plastic, they guarantee comfort and practicality when saving money. Masonry cisterns require work and, therefore, the cost ends up being higher. Those who want to reuse rainwater without needing a reform can opt for a plastic mini cistern.

Mini cistern models

There are several models of mini-cistern available on the market. Here in the store of the eCycle portal we sell four different mini-cisterns, one to collect rainwater, one in a slim version for rainwater or indoor use, and two mini-cisterns to collect water from washing machines. Meet the models:

Mini rainwater cistern

A good option for those who want to collect rainwater is the Caseological Mini Tank , which has 240 liters of capacity and can be installed in houses, apartments and condominiums. It guarantees safety and comfort for your family in times of drought. In addition, your pocket and the planet are grateful - learn more about rainwater harvesting, its advantages and necessary care.

Because it is rain-fed, the water collected by a cistern is not considered to be potable, that is, it is not suitable for human consumption. Rainwater can contain dust, soot, sulfate, ammonium and nitrate. However, much of the water we use in our daily lives does not need to be potable. It can also be used for many domestic activities, such as cleaning cars, machines, floors, backyards, sidewalks, irrigating plants, gardens and flushing toilets.

The Casológica cisterns are directly coupled to the gutters to capture water. Rainwater is taken through the gutters to a filter, where impurities such as leaves or pieces of branches are mechanically removed. In addition, it is important to emphasize that this mini cistern has a separator for the first rainwater, which can contain dirt from the roof. THE Caseological Mini Tank it has a capacity of 240 liters and has a tap at the bottom for easy use.

The product was adapted by a team of biologists and environmental engineers. It is made of green high density polyethylene. The dimensions of the mini-cistern are 52 cm x 107 cm. Includes self-cleaning filter, first rainwater separator, turbulence reducer, 3/4 iron faucet and PVC thief. The mini-cistern meets all the standards of the ABNT NBR 15.527:2007 standard, intended for the use of rainwater from roofs in urban areas for non-potable purposes.

The system allows for expansion. It is possible to couple a mini-cistern to another, adding their storage capacities. Empty, the cistern weighs eight kilos, but it is worth remembering that each liter of water corresponds to one kilo, so it is important to place it in a place that can withstand its weight when full (ie, the eight kilos of the mini cistern plus the 240 kg of water it can store).

To ensure safety and prevent contamination from disease vectors, all entrances and exits are protected by mosquito nets, keeping the Aedes Aegypti and other insects.

Mini slim cistern for rainwater or indoor use

As space is almost always a problem when we think about apartments or urban residences in general, the Brazilian company waterbox developed a slim mini-tank model. It allows those who do not have space for a traditional cistern to be able to reuse both rainwater and water from indoor environments. With a capacity of 97 liters, this mini cistern makes it possible to store clean, reused or rainwater - understand the difference between water and reuse and reuse of rainwater.

You can use the mini Waterbox cistern indoors, to store drinking water (such as an ordinary water tank) or to store reuse water (from your washing machine, for example). In outdoor environments, it is a great tool for capturing rainwater. the cisterns waterbox they have even been used as the chosen solution for water management in sustainable house projects such as Casa Aqua, presented at the Casa Cor event (previous photo).

Each cistern is 1.77 m high, 0.55 m wide, 0.12 m deep and holds up to 97 liters of water! They are modular, so they allow you to connect more than one waterbox to expand storage according to your needs and space availability. Mini cisterns to collect water from washing machines

There are also mini-cistern models that make it possible to reuse water from the washing machine. "Hey, but the cistern is not just for collecting rainwater", you may be wondering. Not only! There are specific cisterns for other activities. Unlike the modular cistern, a washing machine water reuse kit works to reuse so-called gray water, which in this case comes from washing machine rinses.

According to Instituto Akatu, reusing water from the machine is capable of saving 5% in water consumption at home. In other words, water reuse kits are economical and reduce your water footprint.

One option is the mini-cistern EcoTanque 80, which has a capacity of 80 liters and is ready for internal use. It is twice as sustainable as it is a reused tank for transporting olives. The tanks are restored by the specialized team of Casológica, manufacturer of the model, providing an increase in the life cycle of the material before ending up in a landfill. It is made of high-density polyethylene and features a faucet to allow easy extraction of stored water.

The Eco Tank 80 is light (3 kg), has a size of 70 cm x 35 cm and its transport is easy (in case of changes or loans).

If you have a slightly higher demand, the Tecnotri it has a mini-cistern with a capacity to store up to 150 liters of water - and a very attractive design, available in five different colors (blue, beige, orange, green and gray). The 150 liter mini cistern comes with a water reuse kit. Compact and very simple to install, the cistern has a chlorinating filter, two water outlets and an overflow outlet.

To carry out the installation, simply connect the machine's water outlet hose to the inlet of the reservoir. Chlorinating water is also very simple: just insert a tablet for this purpose in the filter indicated in the photo below (the tablet is not included in the kit).

In addition, the cistern has UV14 additive, which ensures that plastic products do not crack, dry out or fade, as happens with other models of plastic tanks on the market. The kit has an antimicrobial additive and allows the chlorination of water. The mini-cistern is completely sealed and guarantees the non-proliferation of the mosquito Aedes aegypti, transmitter of dengue, Zika virus and chikungunya.

Understand how the Tecnotri mini cistern works in the video below:

Saving water is an environmentally friendly activity and reduces costs. By reusing rainwater, you help preserve the natural water cycle, preserve springs and ensure that treated water can be used for more noble purposes. You feed the water table by irrigating gardens and minimize the flow of high volumes of water into the collection networks during heavy rains.
