Cloth diaper: modern option is practical, comfortable and reduces environmental impact

There are several brands that make cloth diapers in the modern version, which doesn't hurt the baby with chemicals and still preserves the environment

Ecological Babies Diaper

The consumption of disposable diapers determines, in fact, a great environmental impact. The use of this item, which is so common in modern life, is the target of several criticisms, and there is no lack of reasons: on average, six thousand diapers are used and discarded in the first three years of a baby's life and each one takes about 450 years to be decompose. It is in this context that the cloth diaper appears as a practical option that reduces the generation of garbage for the little ones.

To produce the disposable diaper, resources such as cellulose extracted from trees (usually planted in a monoculture system) and petroleum-derived plastics are used, whose various effects in the form of environmental contamination are well known, not to mention absorbent substances that can cause various irritations to the babies.

A more sustainable and very efficient option is the modern cloth diaper, which makes life easier for parents and significantly reduces the environmental impact of cleaning babies. There are several brands of cloth diapers available in the Brazilian market, in models made with technological and resistant fabrics.

diverse fabrics

Reusable, cloth diapers can be adjusted to the baby's growth as they have closure buttons and buttonholes in the waist and legs, which eliminates the need for the use of pins, common in old cloth diapers. There is an extra coating on the leg openings to prevent leaks and marks on baby's sensitive skin.

There are several types of cloth diapers you can choose from, with different outer and inner fabrics. Depending on the weather conditions and the baby (hot weather, diaper rash, etc.), it is recommended to use a certain type of fabric in the diapers - cotton is more absorbent, but has less capacity; already the one of microsoft makes the baby drier but warmer; while that of dry fit it tends not to get soaked and dries quickly, for example.

In addition to the various fabrics, cloth diaper models are also available in varying sizes. The colors and prints are equally versatile and each one more graceful than the next!

With some diaper options, just wash while some dry and others are ready to use. The practicality will remain and babies and the environment will thank you.

impact reduction

Studies show that the reusable cloth diaper is therefore one of the most sustainable options. Using fewer resources to manufacture, a good cloth diaper can last about three years, against the 5,500 disposable diapers that would be used in the same period.

Modern cloth diapers are practical to wear, more comfortable for babies and can also save money. They do not use as many chemical products that are difficult to degrade in their composition, impacting less on the environment.

washing

Diaper cleaning is a very simple process, however, as many diapers are used during the day, performing this process at each change would take a long time. So the ideal is to reserve a bucket for storing used diapers and wash them in one go.

If the baby has 20 disposable diapers, on average it will need to be washed every two days. But the more diapers, the less washings will be needed. If you have a washing machine, it is easier, but the storage process for subsequent manual or machine washing is the same.

Reserve a bucket. When removing a pee diaper, separate the diaper pads from the cover, as this separation prevents an unwanted smell from being left. Store both (cover and absorbent) in the bucket.

When removing a coconut diaper, try to dump the excess coconut into the toilet. Then reserve the diapers in the same bucket as the pee diapers.

To machine wash, just add 1 tablespoon of detergent and half a glass of white vinegar for a quantity of 20 diapers. Give preference to a detergent that is less harmful to the environment. Detergent has the function of cleaning without waterproofing the diaper fabric, and vinegar works as a softener and disinfectant at the same time.

Turn on the machine and wash according to preference.

To wash diapers by hand, it is best to soak them in a bucket with more or less a multipurpose lid. After half an hour of soaking, rub them in the tank using coconut soap and, to remove the most difficult parts, a brush that does not harm the fabric.
