coconut oil on the skin

Coconut oil is famous for providing many health benefits. It is reputed to be good for hair, skin, teeth, brain (Alzheimer's disease), circulatory system (cholesterol levels), among others. However, when it comes to the benefits that come from ingesting coconut oil, as in the case of improving Alzheimer's disease and cholesterol levels, there is controversy.

Although some studies conclude that coconut oil can be used to treat and prevent disease, Brazilian Association of Nutrition takes a stand against these recommendations. To understand more about the effects of ingesting coconut oil, read the article: "Coconut oil: know its benefits and learn how to use it".

On the other hand, the use of coconut oil on the skin and hair is not contraindicated. In this case, there are only studies showing the benefits of this type of application of coconut oil, unlike conventional cosmetic products, which present a series of health risks. A study published by the platform PubMed showed that coconut oil is a great moisturizer for the skin. According to research, using coconut oil on the skin as a moisturizer is as safe and effective as using mineral oils. It improves dryness, itching, flaking, roughness and cracking of the skin caused by cutaneous xerosis - the dryness of the skin that can be a result of low air humidity, cold weather, very long and hot baths, dehydration, deficiency of vitamin A, vitamin D deficiency, frequent washing, burns, sun exposure and medications.

The advantage of using coconut oil in skin care, compared to some conventional cosmetic products, is that coconut oil (in organic extra virgin format) is natural and has no harmful effects (to learn more about coconut oil and its products formats, read the article: "Coconut oil: know its benefits and learn how to use it"). If you are willing, you can even make coconut oil at home.

How to use coconut oil on the skin

Exfoliating

Have you thought about using coffee grounds as a cosmetic? So imagine adding it to coconut oil to treat and beautify your skin? In addition to enjoying the exfoliating benefits of coffee, you will benefit from the moisturizing properties of coconut oil. Just use a one-to-one ratio and spread it in gentle circular motions over the regions that need to be exfoliated.

makeup remover

Coconut oil is great for removing makeup. Using just a cotton and a little coconut oil it is possible to remove all the makeup from the skin and still obtain a moisturizing effect. Just apply coconut oil to the skin of the face and eyes, massage and remove with cotton. But be careful not to make your skin too oily and make pimples easier to develop. If this happens, use a drop of tea tree essential oil on the affected area. But before that, test if you don't have allergies. Apply a drop of tea tree essential oil to the inside of your forearm. If any unwanted reaction appears, remove the tea tree essential oil with a cotton wool soaked in coconut oil, or another neutral vegetable oil, such as olive oil, sunflower oil, grape seed oil, among others that are not essential oils (since they tend to be very focused).

Body moisturizer

Coconut oil can be used on any skin type and in any region. So enjoy! Dryer areas such as feet, knees and elbows are greatly benefited by the moisturizing properties of coconut oil.

Moisturizer for the face

Coconut oil is not only good for the skin of the body, the face is also a region that usually receives this type of vegetable oil well; there are even reports of reduction of pimples after its application. However, on oily skin, coconut oil may not be the most suitable and may increase the incidence of pimples. In these cases, it is recommended to stop using coconut oil on the skin of the face and, in its place, apply tea tree essential oil - a great bactericide. But do the allergy test mentioned in the previous topic first.

Moisturizer for lips

If applied to the lips, coconut oil helps to eliminate cracks, roughness and scaling caused mainly by dehydration. Over time, the lips will become softer, more hydrated and will not shed skin. And you can eat it because coconut oil is edible.
