High blood pressure: symptoms, causes and treatment
Find out what are the symptoms and causes of high blood pressure, a chronic disease that can lead to serious problems such as heart attack and stroke
High blood pressure is characterized by pressure measured above 14 by 9 (140 millimeters of mercury - mmHg - by 90 mmHg) and, when it happens recurrently, it is a chronic disease called hypertension. High blood pressure cannot be cured and, if left untreated, it can lead to the development of very serious problems such as heart attack, stroke and kidney damage.
High blood pressure symptoms
High blood pressure is a silent disease and usually symptoms only start to appear when the blood pressure is already very high; among these symptoms are:
- Headache;
- Pain in the back of the neck;
- Nausea;
- Dizziness;
- Blurred vision;
- Chest pain;
- Difficulty breathing.
Patients who have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure and take daily medication may have increased blood pressure levels even without feeling anything. In this case, it is recommended to consult a cardiologist to re-evaluate the treatment.

There are several factors that can cause high blood pressure, such as:
