glass cleaner

The homemade window cleaner can be a great alternative for those who are willing to have a lighter footprint.

On a sunny or rainy day, extremely hot or terribly cold, the habit of looking at movement in the street through the window at home is a pleasant consequence of reflection, whether internally or about the world around us. But the concentration of dust and handprints on the window panes can distract from those small, important lonely moments.

The conventional solution used for cleaning glass is to buy industrialized glass cleaner for this purpose. However, they are often harmful to human health (due to synthetic fragrances and formula components - find out more in "What is an all-purpose cleaner made and what are its environmental impacts?") and can cause environmental damage when they end up in the sewer.

cleaning solution

Fill half a cup with warm water and add 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Then add a tablespoon of cornstarch (for extra shine). Mix well and place the mixture in a spray bottle. Just apply directly to window panes and wipe with a cloth or vegetable sponge. It is also possible to carry out cleaning only with the contents placed in a bucket and being applied to the glass through the bushing.

use the squeegee

After applying the mixture, a good option is to run the squeegee across its entire surface, from top to bottom. And be aware: dry your squeegee with a soft cloth after each slide to avoid scratching the window .

Scrub the glass also on the outside

It is not enough to clean the inside, as the outside of the glass is the one that is subject to most natural weather. Rub hard, but don't push the glass (you run the risk of breaking the window and the glass itself). If you live in townhouses or apartments, pay close attention and don't put yourself in risky situations.

check the edges

Sometimes, when cleaning windows, water runs off and accumulates around the edges. After washing inside and out, make sure the edges on both sides are completely dry by wiping a soft, dry cloth along the perimeter of the glass. This will help prevent mold and other water damage.
