Do it yourself: turn your old t-shirt into a sustainable bag
Follow the quick step-by-step instructions to reuse an unused item and still avoid using plastic bags
You know that shirt that no longer fits or is stained and that's why it's in the back of the closet? She can still be very useful. Instead of throwing it in the trash, learn how to make an ecobag with it and upcycle it!
In addition to using a well-dressed prop, you no longer make use of disposable bags, potentially harmful to the environment, either due to inadequate disposal or even when properly disposed of, due to its slow decomposition due to its ingredients, among them, most of the cases, oil. More resistant than plastic bags, the ecobag made from your t-shirt can also have different colors, depending on what you choose for use. That is, reasons abound.
Let's go step-by-step:
1. Take an old shirt and turn it inside out. Next, draw a picture on the shirt with a pen in a half-horizontal format and cut out, as shown in the figure.
2. After that comes the hardest part: the sewing. Make a straight or narrow "zig-zag" stitch all the way around the cut, at a distance of no more than two centimeters:
If you prefer you can finish the edge with a French stitch. The video below explains how to do this part:
3. Now is the time to make small tears in the bag. Draw guidelines of approximately two inches each to mark the slits, then make the cuts with the tip of scissors. It will look more or less like this:
Be careful not to cut the sides too much, otherwise the holes will be too big and the contents of what is loaded could fall out. Leave about four inches of uncut horizontal space so that there is room for the straps to be made.
4. The handles are even made with one more cut - this time a little bigger (about ten centimeters) and also about ten centimeters away from the opening. Just fold the ex-shirt in half.
5. It's almost done. Now just stretch your bag and the cuts widen:
Now your bag is ready!
If you wash and dry it, the cracks will curl up a little, further improving the appearance.
Now just take the opportunity to take your bag to supermarkets, stores, beaches, fairs and anywhere you have to carry things.
