Tips when using your dishwasher
A good wash can save up to 90% more water than a reckless hand wash
There are water and energy benefits to using a dishwasher. Despite spending 80% less water than manual washing, and saving 300 hours a year, only 2% of the Brazilian population has one of these at home. Due to the limited number, the amount of information available that can help its users to obtain a more effective washing and great savings is very small. But we've put them all together for you. Check out some tips on how to use the dishwasher in a more practical way:
open space
Rearrange the space so that no items touch (glasses, for example, can break due to vibrations). It's best to leave pots and pans out because of their special washing needs and they take up a lot of space in the dishwasher.
Know what can come in and what should come out
Putting the wrong thing in the dishwasher is a step towards disaster. Despite many technological innovations, there are still items that must be washed by hand. Between them:
- Wood: the mixture of heat and water from the machine will cause the wood to swell (swell) and break.
- Thin and flexible plastics: if there is no information given by the manufacturer, it is better to wash it by hand. Heat can twist and even melt the object. And even if the item is considered safe for machine washing, it's best to place it on the top shelf - or as far away from the heat as possible.
- Gold Plated: Strong detergents combined with the heat of the dishwasher can cause the gold to crumble and fall out. Better safe than losing all this preciousness, no?
- Kitchen Knives: Cheap knives have more steel and are prone to rust. More expensive models are deceptively fragile. When it's time for the knife, grab a sponge and a detergent (sustainable) and get to work.
- Delicates: do not place wine glasses, china or any other formal or delicate dinnerware. The chemical components of the detergent are abrasive and will break down the delicate materials of your most delicate dishes, causing them to crack. The heat from the dishwasher can cause bowls and china to break.
Place items upside down
Assuming that your basket is properly pierced, placing spoons, knives and forks pointing upwards will not hinder the quality of cleaning and avoid possible accidents.
