Revolights: the accessory that imitates car brake lights on a bike

In order to maximize the visibility of cyclists, the accessory is now in its third version

Revolights

It is still very difficult to cycle safely through the streets. In addition to the necessary structural changes, such as creating more bike lanes and cycle lanes, small safety items are also needed when sharing space with cars. O Revolights arises to mitigate risks.

It is a device made with LED lamps that is on the back of the bike, making it easier for motor vehicle drivers to see cyclists. The product was a success and is already on its way to the third version.

The first version, launched in 2011, raised more than US$ 215,000, equivalent to R$ 472.5 thousand, through a campaign carried out on a crowdfunding website.

In 2013, the company from Palo Alto, Calif., introduced a second version, and is now using the crowdfunding again for resources for third version.

Maximize visibility

This time, the goal is to reach US$ 100,000, close to R$ 220,000 by April 22, 2014, on the platform kickstarter.

One of the company's partners, Adam Pettler, says that the idea behind the Revolights It was simple: maximize the bike's visibility by adding an integrated brake lighting system, just like in cars.

The lights automatically change state when the cyclist decelerates, alerting drivers of possible danger. There are two modes. In the first, the light changes from a 'solid red' to a color with a brighter hue. In the second, a light starts flashing faster.
