Woosh: a new public drinking fountain concept

Public drinking fountains rinse your bottle and fill it with chilled, filtered water

Saving water has become an increasing global concern. Another growing problem is the frequent habit of drinking bottled water or soft drinks. These two points may seem unrelated, but in the city of Tel Aviv, Israel, hydraulic engineer Itay Tayas-Zamir brought them together into a single solution.

Tired of paying high prices for bottles of cold water to quench his thirst and concerned about the destination of waste, the engineer created Woosh®, which is in the testing phase. The machine cleans and rinses your empty water bottle and fills it with chilled, filtered water. The proposal intends to avoid incorrect disposal of plastic bottles and save water. According to the company's website, more than 42 thousand bottles have been saved and there are more than 11 thousand people registered in the service.

To use the machine, it is necessary to register, which has alarmed some people who are concerned about the possible sale of information. The company spoke through a social network stating that, if the user has privacy concerns, they can put false information in the register, since their only purpose with the registration is to commit people to avoid waste.

It is also speculated that only during this testing process will the machines be free. According to the company, this will depend on each city where the service will be installed - Tel Aviv said it intends to keep the service free. Although the machine has a slot for cards, the need for them is still undefined.

Currently, there are only a few stations in the Israeli city, but the plans are to increase the number in the city and spread their technology around the world. Check out the video to better understand how the machine works:
