Pumice is a great ally against rust
Item commonly used to treat calluses on the feet can eliminate rust in a less harmful to the environment
Certain types of items, depending on humidity conditions, can undergo an oxidation process, causing rust. This causes parts of the product to completely deteriorate quickly, especially for those who live in coastal regions (where there is a higher humidity level).
The most common method of removing rust from these objects is using traditional cleaning products. However, they are generally toxic to the environment and human health. Therefore, there is a simple, efficient, more ecological alternative that has the same function as traditional products is pumice or pumice, a low density spongy volcanic rock, common to treat the calluses on the feet. See below the step-by-step instructions on how to remove rust using a pumice stone:
Materials
- 1 pumice stone;
- 1 bucket of water;
- 1 pair of rubber gloves.
Procedure
With the pumice stone in hand (it is available at pharmacies and supermarkets for around R$10), you should soak it in water for a few minutes. While the stone absorbs water, also wet the object you want to remove the rust from.
Always wearing gloves, rub the stone on the surface of the object. Be careful with excessive force, as this can end up scratching the item, especially if it is a fragile material, such as porcelain. Then simply rinse the product in question and clean the stone in the same way.
Bathroom efficiency
Pumice is very effective on most porcelain surfaces and iron objects. If you are going to use it in the bathroom, be careful with grouts, faucets and other finishes, as they can easily be damaged by friction.
This cleaning solution should only be used four to six times a year on the same object. If you use pumice in your bathroom cleaning routine, for example, you will end up ruining all the china.
