Giving is good: see five reasons to let go
Getting rid of objects that are no longer of much use to you can be an attitude that generates pleasure.
The act of giving material goods is often a very difficult task. We often get emotionally attached to our objects and keep them at home even when they are no longer useful... When it comes to clothes, the scenario gets even more complicated. We don't get rid of items of clothing thinking that in the future we will want to wear them again and they keep molding (literally) until they are too worn out to be given away.
In addition to freeing up space in closets and drawers and helping others, giving is good for the health of the giver. According to studies, making donations stimulates the brain region that gives us pleasure.
Check out five reasons why donating useless objects:
1. It makes us stop looking at our navel and look at the world around us
When we pass on things that have already been useful for us to other people, we share with them a little of our history and give new opportunities to people in financial difficulty.
2. Feeling of generosity
Is there anything better than knowing that a little action you've taken will make someone else's life better? So just put your laziness aside and make a little effort for someone to have fun or get warm with an object that no longer makes a difference to you.
3. Reduces consumption
Donating is good for those who practice the action and for those who receive it, as in addition to freeing up a little space in your closet, you often pass on to someone else a piece in perfect condition, saving them from spending money on a new piece.
4. Decreases pollution and unnecessary disposal
We are part of a culture of constant waste and this is very harmful to the environment. By donating new or in good condition parts, you prevent these parts from ending up in the dump. If everyone adopted this behavior, dumps and landfills would only have really disposable materials.
5. Help in the practice of material detachment
The more you get used to giving away objects and clothes, the more you realize that material objects are not that important in your life. Rather, it is far more important to learn to value others' lives and empathize.
