There are several types of garbage and it is not always so easy to separate one from the other. Recyclable and non-recyclable garbage must be properly separated, to enable the use of what is waste and ensure the correct disposal of waste. Recyclable garbage must be disposed of clean and dry, while the waste (the so-called common garbage) must be sent to controlled sanitary landfills.

Recyclable and non-recyclable waste

Paper

Recyclable

  • Writing papers: notebooks, office papers in general
  • Printing papers: newspapers, magazines, pamphlets
  • Packaging papers: wrapping paper, tissue paper
  • Papers for sanitary purposes: toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, tissues
  • Cards and cardboard: cardboard boxes and cardboard in general
  • Special papers: kraft paper, heliographic paper, filter paper, drawing paper.

Not recyclable

  • Vegetal paper
  • Cellophane paper
  • Waxed papers or impregnated with impermeable substances
  • Carbon paper
  • Used sanitary papers
  • Dirty, greasy or contaminated papers with substances harmful to health
  • Papers coated with some type of paraffin or silicone

Plastic

Recyclable

  • All kinds of packaging for shampoo, detergents, pet bottles and other household products
  • Plastic lids for containers and other materials
  • Plastic packaging for eggs, fruits and vegetables
  • Plastic utensils such as ballpoint pens, toothbrushes, buckets, kitchen items, cups, etc.

Not recyclable

  • Plastics (technically known as thermosets), used in the electrical and electronics industry and in the production of some computers, telephones and appliances

  • Metallized plastic packaging*, such as biscuits and snacks
