spnKix: motorized and electric skates

Giving "wings to your feet" is the proposal of the skates, which reach a speed of approximately 13 km/h

Industrial designer Peter Treadway developed, after testing more than thirty different prototypes, the motorized skates named spnKiX. The product promises to be a good urban mobility solution for short distances, as well as an interesting entertainment for the weekends.

The spnKiX is powered by rechargeable batteries and attaches to the wearer's shoes. It is guided by a wireless remote control, which controls both feet, although each has its own motor and battery. The control is hand held and the power can be controlled according to the user's desire.

The batteries take four to five hours to recharge and provide an autonomy of about 10 kilometers, depending on the slope of the terrain. The maximum speed achieved is about 8 miles per hour and the manufacturer does not recommend spnKix for users weighing more than 80 kilos.

There are three braking possibilities that guarantee safety: moving the accelerator button backwards, simply stopping accelerating, or even a mechanical brake on the heel similar to that of conventional skates. The warranty offered is 90 days and the product, although it cannot be soaked, can be used on wet floors and during light rain.

Currently, the product sells for US$699 (about R$1425). For more information about spnKiX, visit the official website.
