Herbs and spices help when cleaning. know how

Herbs and spices can make great natural cleaning products to use at home.

Plant

Herbs and spices have a long history of use. Since antiquity, they were already part of the preparation of food, medicines and, in some religions, they were the instrument for "spiritual cleansing". Over time, they were also used as disinfectants, flavorings and even decorative objects. For example, herbs such as oregano, rosemary and thyme were scattered on the ground on festive occasions such as weddings. As guests walked and danced on the herbs, they released their fragrance into the air - far more romantic than plug-in flavorings, isn't it?

Herbs such as hyssop and rue, considered disinfectants, were dispersed around risky environments to keep diseases at bay. Herbs and spices are also used to help control weight. Today, while it's much more common to use cleaning products full of harmful chemicals, there are people making their own “green” cleaning products, using ingredients like essential oil and spices, which clean well and leave a more natural scent in the environment.

The secret to making your own cleaning products is in knowing their ingredients. Making cleaning products is not as scary as it sounds, it's not difficult, it's not time-consuming, and the results really work. This can be a cost-effective way out, as generally the cleaning products available on the market are expensive and contain many toxic chemicals; so, in addition to saving money, you will also benefit from your health by avoiding agents such as triclosan, cocamide DEA, toluene (methylbenzene) and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Herbs and spices are reasonably cheap, so why not grow some in your own backyard? Here are eight steps to make your organic garden.

differences

Do you know how to differentiate herbs from spices?

Herbs are plant leaves. The main herbs are: basil, oregano, chives, marjoram, parsley, rosemary, sage, mint, thyme. They are usually used fresh, as cooking reduces their aroma.

Spices are products of plant origin such as seeds, sprouts, fruits, flowers, bark and plant roots. Spices are also used in the preparation of oils, cosmetics, incense and medicines. Due to the presence of essential oils, spices have a stronger aroma and flavor. The main spices are black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, vanilla, cardamom, ginger, coriander, chilli pepper, mustard beans, saffron, allspice.

Multipurpose without toxic products

There are many herbal cleansers and natural items to explore. But here's a recipe for a product that can have many uses.

Ingredients

  • Citrus fruit peels;
  • Vinegar;
  • Water.

Instructions

  1. Fill a glass jar with the husks - it is not necessary to fill it all at once, you can collect it little by little. Whenever you eat an orange, for example, throw the skin into the jar.
  2. When the jar is full, pour vinegar over the skins until covered.
  3. Let the mixture sit for at least two and a half weeks. The vinegar will take on an orange/golden color and a strong citrus aroma.
  4. Fill half a spray bottle with the mixture, and fill the rest with water.
  5. Use a cloth to clean. It works well on sinks, mirrors, windows, floors, wooden chairs and counters. Best of all, it is made with citrus peels, another alternative to reduce waste.
