Learn how to lose weight with baboons

Baboons eat better than most people and set an example

Learn how to have a balanced diet

Yes, that's exactly what you read. Baboons can show us an efficient diet to maintain a healthy weight. While many people around the world are following the “protein diet”, which is high in fat and low in carbohydrates, baboons prove that balance is really good.

In fact, what they do is nothing less than consuming only the necessary nutrients per day. And they are strict. Spider monkeys and orangutans, for example, sometimes end up overindulging in fats and carbohydrates, but baboons rarely get over it.

One study followed the feeding routine of a female baboon in South Africa for 30 days. As she lived in a park, she received food from people and also took them in nature. The researchers observed that the female ate only in amounts close to what was necessary and always tried to balance: if she received a food with too many carbohydrates, she looked for a source of protein later. They also observed that males accepted more food made by people than females.

But anyway, how can we learn from baboons?

The example that baboons give us is how to have a balanced diet, and not eat like a "wild animal". The ideal is to stay within the recommendations of the food pyramid (updated in 2013):

And if you're vegetarian or vegan, there's a special pyramid for you too. The American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved, in 1997, a vegetarian food pyramid:

A balanced diet, associated with physical exercise, provides a healthy and balanced life. Any questions, consult a nutritionist.
