Is aluminum foil recyclable?

Sounds like a lie, but aluminum foil is recyclable. Understand how to dispose of aluminum foil for recycling

aluminum foil

Aluminum foil is recyclable, but requires certain care. When we use aluminum foil to pack food, for example, there are leftovers that can harm recycling. Therefore, before sending the aluminum foil for recycling, it is necessary to sanitize it - preferably with reuse water. Check the recycling stations closest to your home on the free search engines at eCycle portal and have greater security that your aluminum foil will be recycled!

  • Aluminum: what is it? What are its properties? What impacts can it bring to man and the planet?

Brazil plays a prominent role in the recycling of aluminum cans. However, other products that use metal, such as aluminum foil or food packaging, do not reach the same relevance in terms of recycling due to the way of disposal and the lack of interest from recyclers - this is because aluminum foil is light (the price is quoted per kilo) and requires cleaning.

Therefore, before sending the aluminum foil for recycling, make sure there are no small containers that can be covered with the rest of the aluminum foil. It is possible to make the most of aluminum foil before disposing of it for recycling. One way is to use it to cover smaller containers of the same food. But there are at least five ways to reuse aluminum foil outside the kitchen. Take a look:

How to reuse aluminum foil

clean your grill

There is a proportional relationship between how delicious your food was and the size of the mess you created by making it. Having to wash the dishes afterwards is the worst part of cooking, especially if the object that needs cleaning is a grill that "worked a lot" on the Sunday barbecue (which could be vegan!). But with a little help from the aluminum foil, it stops being that seven-headed beast. It's very simple: just make a ball with the aluminum foil and rub it in the dirt.

sharpen your scissors

Scissors are used in different areas of the house and, precisely because of the excess service, they can quickly become blind and ineffective. To sharpen them, use them to cut six to eight layers of aluminum foil . After the last cut, they will be new and ready for another one.

Passing clothes

Ironing clothes is one of the household chores that very few enjoy. But the super aluminum foil also saves you in this: before putting on your clothes, insert some aluminum foil over the board and cover it with a cloth that is not too thick. The paper will reflect the heat from the iron and make the process faster.

Create a solar box

Many plants need sunlight to grow and an open window is a great option to let the sun in and bathe your plant in light. However, the plant tends to bend towards the light, causing what is called phototropism. The solar box allows light to hit all sides of the plant. To make the solar box, take a cardboard box, remove the top and one side of the box, and fill the other sides with aluminum foil (shiny sheet side out), gluing with tape or glue. Place the plant in the box and place it near the window.

Build a homemade seed incubator

Incubators allow you to start a crop months before its season. To make a homemade incubator, take a shoebox, fill it with aluminum foil (with the shiny side out), leaving 5 cm of paper stretched out along the sides. Drill several drainage holes at the bottom of the box - perforating the paper - and then place the chosen soil according to your type of cultivation and plant the seeds. The aluminum foil inside the box will absorb heat to keep the seeds warm as they germinate, and the aluminum outside will reflect sunlight onto the sprouts. Place the box next to a sunny window, and check the result.
