Paul Villinski turns trash into symbols of freedom

Through recycling, visual artist transforms garbage into art

In the field of visual arts, it has been common for a long time to use an everyday object in an unusual way. Nowadays, the trend continues and works of art with garbage are still very present, which is a very positive point, as some items could end up in the garbage and become works of art. The American artist Paul Villinski makes use of this type of technique in very well finished and metaphorical works.

Villinski is based on his history, bringing together personal information from his childhood and references from contemporary society. For example, he mixed planes (because he is the son of a US Air Force pilot) with empty cans (which is a conscious tendency) to perform some of his jobs, using the technique of upcycle - changing the function of an object that no longer had value for its initial purpose.

In addition to bringing together individual and social aspects, Villinski is based on the idea of freedom, represented by wings made with old gloves, butterflies made from aluminum cans and some other types of recycled materials. He still considers his creative process a form of meditation.

Villinski is also part of a side project, in partnership with Dr. Rudolph Mattoni. It is about the study and creation of butterflies in an artificial environment, a kind of greenhouse, with natural plants, irrigation system and artificial light.
