What is Arthritis: Symptoms and Treatments

Conventional medical treatments are effective, but there are studies on complementary techniques for dealing with symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

There are several types of arthritis but do you know what rheumatoid arthritis is?

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory autoimmune disease – a condition that causes the system that normally protects the body against infection and disease to do the opposite and end up attacking the body itself. Among the different types of arthritis, rheumatoid attacks the joints, causing symptoms such as pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of function in the joints. All of this causes, over time, the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the joints to weaken. Rheumatoid is different from other types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, which is associated with the wear and tear of cartilage and is more common in middle age. However, all forms of arthritis have their main cause in common: inflammation.

People who suffer from arthritis are medicated with a drug known as tumor necrosis factor (TNF). However, about 30% of patients do not respond to the medication and that is why there is a need to develop effective other options to fight arthritis. One of them, recently discovered by scientists, consists of a protein that acts as an indicator to determine which white blood cells will increase or decrease inflammation.

However, while more effective techniques for combating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are not yet developed, you can take a look at recommended foods and foods not recommended for people who have or are prone to arthritis. Remember: it is always recommended to consult a doctor or doctor.

Aid to the treatment of arthritis

Food has an influence on cases of arthritis and therefore are allies in the treatment of the disease. This is because some are “inflammation promoters”, favoring the problem. Blood sugar is a factor that causes inflammation; another is food that has proteins that can give rise to allergies. Some examples are cow's milk, wheat, shrimp, artificial colors, nuts and peanuts.

Despite this, there are other types of food that are anti-inflammatory and help lessen the pain of arthritis. Some examples are kale, blueberry (blueberry), pumpkin, mushrooms, sesame, hemp seeds, salmon and green tea.

A study by American College of Rheumatology shows that fish oil, which contains omega-3 fatty acid (a nutrient that the body does not produce and must be obtained from foods such as tuna, salmon, mackerel and flaxseed) acts as an anti-inflammatory and also relieves the pain caused by arthritis.

There are also some types of herbs that work in the same way as omega-3s. A Chinese root extract, called Tripterygium wilfordii or Thunder God Vine, fights the inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. Four other different types of herbs also help fight symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis: burdock root, turmeric, ginger and flaxseed, which is also a great source of omega-3s. There is also the goji berry, which is a Chinese fruit that strengthens the bones (you can get this product by clicking here).

yoga

Although there is no definitive research that proves that the practice of yoga is really effective against arthritis, early studies have found that by improving physical function, strength and flexibility, the amount of swelling in the joints decreases.
